Help with SCAL Upgrades
From Original SCAL to SCAL 2

Sure Cuts A Lot 2 is a major improvement over the original version and many new features make your creative work easier.

I know you would like upgrading to be very easy so I have provided step-by-step guidance below.

It doesn't matter where you purchased SCAL in the past.

If you are interested in seeing the additional features in SCAL2, I would encourage you to look at the Quick Start Exercises on my Help with SCAL page.

IMPORTANT: All upgrades result in a purchase through the SCAL manufacturer and not ScrappingTable.com.  This page is provided as a courtesy to users of original SCAL. Upgrades from original SCAL to SCAL2 do not qualify for free access to ScrappingTable.com Theme Sets. If you are interested in access to ScrappingTable.com Theme Sets, it may be less expensive for you to purchase SCAL2 from ScrappingTable.com instead of upgrading.

Please note:  SCAL 2 is no longer available and SCAL 3 does not support Cricut systems.

Let's start with a quick summary of the manufacturer's upgrade process so you see the "big picture." Following this summary, you will see step-by-step guidance and all the links you need to click to easily upgrade to SCAL 2.0.  These instructions are for both versions of SCAL 2.0 (Windows & Mac).

Upgrade Process Summary

There are five simple steps from start to finish:

1. Verify your current SCAL registration information in the manufacturer's online system.

2. Receive and open a confirmation email that contains an upgrade code you need to purchase at the upgrade price.

3. Enter your upgrade code in the manufacturer's online shopping cart to purchase SCAL 2.0 at the upgrade price.
  • Mac Users:  Be sure to read my special note at step #3 below.
4. Receive and open a purchase confirmation email that contains your SCAL 2.0 registration information.

5. Download, install and activate SCAL 2.0.

Upgrade Steps

Step #1: Verify your original SCAL registration. CLICK HERE WHEN READY

The manufacturer needs to know that you own a valid license to the original SCAL version to provide you with an upgrade code.  This is a common industry practice because of software piracy concerns.  When you click the link above, the manufacturer's online verification screen will open.  In the following illustration, I show you the relevant part of their screen and identify the information you need to provide.

The "registered name" and "serial number" can be found two ways as I show below. Also, note that the email address should be your current email address so you can receive an upgrade code.

First, if you have your original SCAL purchase confirmation email, the information will be in it.  This is the same information you used to activate SCAL after installing it on your computer.

Second, you can start SCAL on your computer and get the information from within it.  The registered name and serial number are prominently displayed on a gold "splash" screen that appears as the program is starting.  Since it only appears for a moment, you will want to display it manually.

In the following illustration, I show you how to manually display the splash screen.  Simply look at the menu across the top of your cutting mat and select "Help." This will cause a another menu to drop-down. From this drop-down menu, select "About."  The screen will then appear.

To make the gold splash screen disappear, just click on it.

NOTE:  If you write the information from the SCAL display screen, please be very precise.  The registered name needs to be entered just as you see it on the screen including upper and lower case characters.  In other words, the manufacturer's system is "case sensitive." Also, the serial number is a mix of characters and numbers.

Step #2: Open a confirmation email that contains an upgrade code you need for the next two steps.

Almost immediately, the manufacturer's online system will validate your SCAL site license and send you a confirmation email that will contain an upgrade code. This code works like a purchase discount coupon in their online shopping cart. So, you definitely need it. Below, I show you the relevant part of the email you will receive.

Because the upgrade confirmation email will come directly from support@craftedge.com," your email system may think it is spam. Look in your junk email or deleted email folders if you do not receive it within 30 minutes.

Step #3: Purchase SCAL 2.0 online and use your upgrade code in the online shopping cart to have the price automatically reduced to the upgrade price.  CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE SCAL 2.0 AT THE UPGRADE PRICE

Attention MAC Users:  The manufacturer requires you to confirm a purchase agreement by clicking a check-box. You cannot purchase the SCAL 2.0 Mac version without agreeing to the following three items:

1. You have compatible firmware on your Cricut machine and can cut with the demo version of Sure Cuts A Lot. The firmware requirements are:
  • Personal Cutting System: version 1.1 or 1.3
  • Create: version 1.51
  • Expression: version 2.1 or 2.3
2. You cannot apply for a refund once you have used your serial number to activate Sure Cuts A Lot 2.0 software.

3. You understand that can only update your Cricut's firmware with a Windows-based computer  (XP,  Vista or Windows 7)

I strongly encourage you to download and test the demo version before purchasing.  NOTE:  The demo version will cut lines through your design which will stop once SCAL 2.0 has been activated with a valid serial numberDOWNLOAD SCAL 2.0 MAC VERSION

Personal Note from Michelle:  I expect the manufacturer to release updates to the SCAL 2.0 Mac version frequently over the next few months. This is a common industry practice and was the case with the Windows version of SCAL 2.0. You should check my "Help with SCAL" page regularly in the future to ensure that you have the latest updated SCAL 2.0 Mac version installed on your computer. The updated releases are free to you and install directly over the SCAL 2.0 on your computer.

Step #4: Open a purchase confirmation email you will receive that contains your SCAL 2.0 registration information.

The manufacturer's online system will email a purchase confirmation to you that will contain the registration information you need to activate SCAL 2.0. The email also contains a link to the manufacturer's download page so you can download SCAL 2.0 and install it on your computer. Again, because the email will come directly from support@craftedge.com," your email system may think it is spam. Look in your junk email or deleted email folders if you do not receive it within 30 minutes.

Step #5: Download, install and activate SCAL 2.0. (I provide assistance on my Help with SCAL page.)

The download, installation and activation processes for SCAL 2.0 are just like the original version.  I encourage you to use my Help with SCAL page because I have detailed instructions and other information that will help you now and in the future. For example, I explain that SCAL 2.0 is a completely separate program which means you do not need to uninstall your original version of SCAL.  They can co-exist on your computer.
